I found this little gem in our youngest sons school bag yesterday. Our children are in French emmersion in a small rural school. The teachers are fantastic and surprise us parents with art work and projects from precious ( autocorrected word but it fits so nicely I will leave it there! ) previous was what I meant to say, years.
What a sweet little boy he is. It says :
I love to help my friends
When was the last time you went out if your way for a friend?
Where are you seated on this roller coaster ride known as life?
Do you often throw your hands up and squeal and live life to the fullest?
Or do you complacently sit around, with out much outward expression? Do you hold yourself back from taking a moment to enjoy the little things in life? Are you closed with your emotions? Are you more reserved?
If you prefer the back row, why not take a ride in the front seat for a change?

So Eden, my daughter, wants to cut her hair to her shoulders. While we were on a walk I asked her if she was sure and why she wanted to cut her hair and she simply said ” because then when I turn to talk to someone when I’m eating pancakes, my hair won’t get all sticky and syrupy from touching my plate.” 8 year old logic at its finest.

What are some funny and humorous things that your kids have said!?
Relationships and communication with our young people, no matter the stage of growth they are in, can at times seem daunting and confusing.
One moment our children want our love, cuddles, encouragement and support and the next it seems that no matter how we try to approach our children they will have nothing to do with it or us.
Just when you think you’ve mastered the steps of their new and complicated dance the music suddenly changes and you are left feeling left footed, unprepared and clumsy all over again.

If only it were that simple!
So my 18 year old daughter has moved into her very first apartment. The first one of the bunch to be living on her own.
She is on her own despite my encouraging her not to….encouraging her to wait….encouraging her to attain the finer things while living at home…..but to no avail.
Why is it so challenging for us to remember what it was like to be young and eager to be independent? My children have finally become willing, engaged readers!!
I know isn’t it so exciting??
My son Noah is really loving the Big Nate book series and my daughter Eden has fell in love with Ivy and Bean. I love seeing them pick up a book to read on their own.
I had a family member mention that Big Nate was comic bookish and not advanced enough for my son (he is a strong reader he just never had the desire to read for leisure) but you know what? He loves these books. He is keen to read and for me that has been what I have been waiting for.
If your child wants to read, encourage them to do so, what ever the reading level!

Do your children bicker?
Good Lord, help me. Mine do. And I know, I know all kids do. Especially when there are three children in very close age proximity. (been there, done that, this is my second ‘batch’ of them)
But sometimes I am absolutely dumbfounded about the petty (to me) things that my children choose to bicker about.
I have this imaginary game I play with myself called Mom of the Year and every time I do something I know will ‘wow’ the kids I give myself some imaginary ‘points’ and this gets me excited! I love that the only person I am competing with is myself.
This will give me points even after they’ve left home!
I came across a web site with these fantastic recipes for convenient meals that you can prepare on the weekend. Weekdays you grab a meal out of the fridge or freezer and throw it all in the crock pot. It takes the worry and stress out of a parents concern on whether your family will be eating healthy meals at night especially with the many unforeseen time hampers during the busy workweek like unexpected stops at the wine store.
